Does anyone know how to do a power calculation for a bone marrow colony formation (serial replating) assay? I'd be looking for a difference in mean number of colonies on the 3rd replating between two groups.
Like this: wild type sample// 1st plating: 80 colonies, 2nd: 82 colonies, 3rd: 90 colonies.
Mutant sample// 1st plating: 80 colonies, 2nd: 40 colonies, 3rd: 0 colonies.

The attached extract from Armitage and Berry 2nd ed gives method for power calcs for mean differences. i assume you have a number of wild samples with 3 platings and a number of mutant samples with 3 platings.
