There are many options, it mainly depends on the kind of compunds (flavonoids, alkaloids, etc.) you are looking for, and the amount of the extract. Usually a fat removal with petroleum ether or hexane gets the extract free of these kinds of substances. Is very common too mix the extract with a support like sand or silica gel and then make successive extractions with solvents in incresing polarity (hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, methanol), at room temperature or in a Soxhlet apparatus if your goal compounds are not thermolabile. In some cases, when the amount of extract is adequate, column chromatography of the extract can be used. For some compounds, mainly alkaloids, pH-dependent extractions can ve achieved and avoid most of the interferences.
