Hi there, A box contains 3 red balls, 2 green balls and one white ball. Three balls are drawn out of the box without refund and color is observed in sequence, determine the sample space S. How many probabilities are they if we use permutation and combination formulas?
If I use tree diagram, the answer is n(S)=19. But I don't know how com the value from if I use permutation or combination formulas. Thanks in advance.
Since there are six balls in total. You have a nCr= 6C3= 20 possibilities for the combinations possible. In this case order is not important.
For the permutation where order is important, we have nPr= 6P3=120 posibilities. using the tree will only treat the balls with the same color as identical and hence do not offer any new possibilities. The tree should give you results equivalent to that of the combination formula.
