Hi Sir, it is my pleasure to reply to your question ,in Iraq,IV infusion of iron is well tolerated in private clinics surely after testing allergy,preparing emergency kit ,usually the infusion takes less or more half an hour .

In a previous hospital I worked out, the safe provision of IV Iron was a top priority.

There were several measures taken to reduce the risk of extravasation and staining:

1. A dedicated outpatient IV Infusion centre (including Iron) was established to ensure that only highly skilled practitioners were commencing and monitoring infusions.

2. In the maternity area- a 'flying squad' of selected staff very familiar with iron infusions were available to be booked and attend at the ward to provide infusions.

3. Patient information sheets outlining what they should look out for -e.g. stinging or burning and to ask for help if this occurs.

4. Specific IV iron infusion consent forms that allow am informed discussion.

5. An IV iron infusion checklist to ensure all safety parameters are followed including recommended site selection - avoid cubital fossa.

6. Creation of a policy about the eligibility criteria for IV iron as well as requirements that patients are not transferred during the infusion etc.

7. Creation of emergency IV iron infusion kits with instructions on managing extravasations.

At our hospital we have a similar path (specific informed consent, information leaflet and so on).

I am interested to know if in your country (?) you can infuse iron out of the hospital. This is the focus of our group.

Sorry for that. Yes, in Australia, we can. We have primary care centres with general practitioners that can prescribe and then have the nurse administer.
