In the protologue, only the name of the place from which the plant was collected was given. Suppose, a single herbarium specimen exists in one herbarium, is it possible to do lectotypification?
What I understood was that it is not possible to lectotype because of the existence of a SINGLE HERBARIUM SPECIMEN.
If this is not true, can you give one example and please give details of the article number of the ICN code which supports the lectotypification of a name having a single herbarium specimen?
If the single specimen contain the locality as mentioned in protologue and annotated/examined/seen by author while describing the species name (herbarium where the types of author are known to be kept) then no need to designate lectotype. It will be obligatory holotype. If the specimen not seen/examined by author of species name, then isosyntype, means not seen by author while describing the name, may be duplicate of original specimen, then in this case the single extant specimen can be designated as lectotype.
The specimen is automatically the lectotype if it is the only one in existence

If you can prove that the author used that only specimen, you can accept it as the holotype.
In case of any confusion there is another way of citing:
Lectotype designated here, if not holotype
In case of Linnaean name, however, there is very little change of accepting it as the holotype
