Is this diesel power generators with an air inlet and exhaust outlet? If so the generator room noise level canbe calculated using classic diffuse room model theory based on the sound power level and the room absorption, reverb and volume. The power going out of the room towards neighbours is the diffuse field sound level pressure times the area Lp + 10log(S) - 6 dB (Intensity). Normally there is a need for a large sound muffler there to reduce the power sufficiently given that it might run at night. The fan is the main source, in addition to the engine of course.
