I am trying to plot extinction cross section of two nanoparticles which half of them is placed in the air and half in a glass matrix. the problem is that there are negative entities for extinction cross section in my graph and also when I plot the electric field, it is reflected from the pml. I have attached two screenshots.
Does anyone have any idea what is wrong?
The PML is not well defined. Make your simulation box larger, play around with the PML settings or mesh settings. One of them or the combination of them should solve the issue and you will recover physically meaningful positive extinction cross sections (I am assuming that you are using linear materials in the simulation).
Hello dear Katayoon Ghaemi . Three points:
1. The scattering cross section (SCS) is assumed to be the integral of the optical power outgone from the outer surfaces of both the nanoparticles. You may sum some power flows into them. You did not define the relationship for SCS. use the following for outgoing power normal to the surfaces:
abs(nx*ewfd.relPoavx)+abs(ny*ewfd.relPoavy)+abs(nz*ewfd.relPoavz)
2. The thickness of the PML and the space between the particles and PML must be larger or equal to half of the maximum wavelength in your study. Assure to correct that.
3. On outer boundaries of the PML domains, use scattering boundary conditions.
