Our lab is planning to purchase a multimode microplate reader. We are considering the Synergy H1 by BioTek, but we also have a good offer for the Spectramax id5 by Molecular Devices. Please share your opinion if you have had any user experience with these readers.
I have not worked with the id5, but I have had a little experience with the i3x multimode plate reader from Molecular Devices. If they are similar in operation, something I would recommend you take into consideration is how long it takes to read an entire plate, if you are planning to do kinetic measurements. I found the i3x to take what I considered to be a long time (a few minutes) to read an entire 384-well plate, so that kinetic time points had to be widely spaced.
Tecan line of microplate readers are incredibly flexible. Having the flexibility of the monochromator means you can handle practically any lumi/fluor combination with sensitivity for the vast majority of assays. Highly recommend the Spark.
