I have a case where I need to perform some CFD simulations.

There is a mixture of water and sludge in a water reservoir which flows through a pipe installed at the bottom and then past a valve.

Can I use a single phase flow for for this mixture? I can measure the density and viscosity of this mixture experimentally at different time or at different valve opening angles. Or does it strictly require multi-phase flow?

What are the conditions/criteria in order for me to simulate just the single phase flow in such a case?

Any insights highly appreciated

Thanks
