This is the plot of the coercive field and saturation magnetization according to the Co layer thickness. As you can see, the sample composition is shown on the left.
I wondered, if i extrapolate Ms tendency, why it doesn't reach to 0 nm? What kinds of contributions can exist?
Hello, it seems that Co would just not exist below a specific thickness, so even for a monolayer of Co, there could be a Ms. So the Ms would start having a non-zero value from a specific thickness of Co, and then raise as a function of thickness. Having a function of thickness when the thickness is less than Co monolayer size might not follow the trend, that it would above a monolayer thickness; as also seen in your plot.
Also, Pt might induce an Ms and the net effect of Pt and Co can possibly change as a function of Co thickness.
Co typically will form a thin magnetically dead layer, known as the "dead layer" whose thickness and cause varies depending on the substrate and growth conditions, but is very common, i.e. see Article Study of ultrathin magnetic cobalt films on MgO(001)
.Characterization of this dead layer is a very typical measurement, and your plot is in-line with what I'd expect for Co.
