Hello. I am going to work on normal fault rupture below the foundations for my thesis but yet I have not been able to choose between Abaqus, Flac and optum etc. for modelling fault. I would be appreciated if you could help.

At first, it’s better to read the published papers and thesis in this field to see their simulations. Then, you can check their manual.
I think for academic purposes ABAQUS would be better.

I answer from the point of view of an engineering geologist;
You should consider the following in modeling the normal fault rupture below the foundations:
1- The type of possible rupture that will depend on the characteristics of the rock mass and the fault surface/zone (normally were only considered the bearing capacity of the rock mass and the fault geometry).
2- Long-term creep phenomenon at the fault surface
3- The effect of the possible earthquake by fault (like PGA, PGV and PGD caused by the possible earthquake).
therefore, any software that could be modeled in these situations is the best, it's maybe ABAQUS.

If the main purpose of your study is foundation, you can use Abaqus software and also model the fault.
