Can anyone suggest other catalyst for synthesizing 2-benzoylbenzofuran aside potassium carbonate?
Salicylaldehyde and phenacyl bromide..actually, im trying sodium carbonate as a catalyst and it didn't works...what is the color of a 2-benzoylbenzofuran crystal.?
Williamson reaction between phenacyl bromide and salycylic aldehyde with anhydrous potassium carbonate in refluxing EtOH or perhaps acetone. This should alkylate the free phenol, make the aldol and if conditions are harsh enough, dehydrate the product towards your target. For this recipy, nothing like potassium carbonate! You may try sodium or cesium carbonate, but they will not be the same.
Catalyst for synthesizing 2-benzoylbenzofuran by reacting furan with benzoyl chloride in presence of AlCl3 in catalytic amount(Friedel-Craft acylation).
