In my opinion, Archemedes's method is still the best method to determine the bulk density and apparent porosity. But one needs to choose the liquid medium for the measurement wisely.

Mithun Nath in one article, they boiled the samples before conducting Archemedes's method. I think they did it in order to fill the pores but what if samples have closed pores? still would not be accurate

selim burak Cantürk This method would still work even if there are closed pores. Apart from boiling, some use a vacuum pump to suck out air from the open pores and fill it with liquid. However, one should take utmost care while selecting the liquid medium and measurement skills. For example, some liquid may react with the object during the test. Again, loose fine particles from the object may also get into the liquid during testing that eventually will give wrong results. Hope this will help.
