Anti-DsRed or anti-RFP will generally work for detecting mCherry. The most reliable ones I have used are polyclonals. One is a rabbit anti-DsRed/RFP made by MBL (Japan) and the other is a rabbit anti-DsRed made by Clontech. The Clontech monoclonal anti-DsRed did not work for me when analyzing yeast cell lysates, as it specifically bound to an unknown background protein instead of the mCherry fusion protein.
Thanks very much Mark. Yes, I also thought maybe polyclonal DsRed antibodies might do the trick, but wasn't sure which supplier to use. At least Clontech has distributors in South Africa, so will check that out.
Good luck Heinrich. I saw that Clontech now offers a monoclonal anti-mCherry that it claims can distinguish mCherry from other DsRed variants as well. Might be worth a try if your Clontech distributor can offer you a replacement guarantee.
