This is an old thesis that lost its popularity. I think it has some truth but also the opposite: Mathematics uses scientific methods i.e. presice and consistent definitions, strict validation requirements and is a science in that it develops in admirable novel paths and expands in a valid way that serves the interests of other fields (science without utility is not scince)

From a historical perspective, just do a quick review (reading/ searching/ rethinking/ reinventing) on this/that topic.
