I recommend the work of the German researcher Lara Schlaffke. She works with high field Magnetic Resonance images, different sequences. She studied neuronal changes in musicians and emphasizes the role of astrocytes. I don't know if you are searching for a general introduction or highly specific works. Best, Julian
Prof. Eckard Friauf from TU Kaiserslautern ( [email protected] ) is teaching neural plasticity. He's an excellent teacher. Maybe you can ask him directly by sending an email with your queries.
I have read "the Brain That Changes Itself" and enjoyed it greatly. I have not read "Soft-Wired" by Dr. Michael Merzenich, but it's in my stack of books to read next. It might be a little too general for what you are looking for, but you might want to check it out. Anything by V.S. Ramachandran is always interesting and entertaining. I LOVED "The Tale of the Dueling Neurosurgeons" by Sam Kean as a general quick history of neuroscience. Good luck and happy reading!
Mahmoud, you should also read Norman Doidges book 'The Brain's Way of Healing 2015)' for fabulous insight into the description of neuroplasticity and also excellent case studies including stroke where innovative ideas utilised the concept of neuroplasticity to improve outcomes in stroke. Also look at projects in our Neuroplasticity Research Group. We have used Doidge's books as a template for a number of case studies towards development of innovative treatments for stroke patients. A lot of the ideas in popular psychology books can be introduced to rehabilitation so read anything from Malcolm Gladwell, Matthew Syed, and Rolf Dobelli. What is your own research investigating?
