Do you have any recommendations for the best software I can use to make professional-quality graphical abstracts and diagrams? I hear Adobe Illustrator is good. Have you used it or anything you consider better?
Jaelen Nicole Myers .......Jaelan, Adobe Illustrator works well because it will make illustration and abstracts suitable for publication and commercial printers. Its the best I know of. But it also has a steep learning curve (best to take a course in using it) and a monthly subscription fee. ---- Corel Draw is equally good but has same learning curve and subscription cost. ---- I too will recommend starting with Affinity Designer. There’s two types of fee’s one for a single computer another for universal use, Here too you should expect a learning curve. Though not as complex as the others. However the tools and language used might be unfamiliar. What follows are alternatives. I haven’t used them But one is open-source.
Inkscape (https://inkscape.org/)……..the others are…..Snappa an online app (snappa.com) …..ArtBoard Studio (https://artboard.studio/)…..Sketch (https://www.sketch.com/design/)_…….The last 3 are low cost for limited projects per month or a monthly (but lower unlimited fee. ----- N.B. Sketch is for MacOS
Adobe Illustrator is a good solution, but it takes a little time to get used to it and the license costs around 25€ per month. However, many tutorials exist on Youtube and on the Adobe site to train you.
And for the almost equivalent but free solution, you can use Inkscape!
Affinity is a very good paid alternative. I like corel draw a lot.
But nowadays, i'd go for free or open source software.
Inkscape is a very good alternative to begin with. With some time spent on the learning curve, you will get very fine graphs, infographs (still and animated), illustrations and so on.
