Usually, after fixation, if you are going to store your samples for months, you should dilute (x2.5) your formalin, to prevent tissue damage, expecially if your have small size samples. Of course, formalin fixed tissue should be included in paraffin and sectioned by a microtome (you use a cryostat if you are going to use a frozen tissue included in OCT). For H-E sections you do not require a specific protocol.

I was told that to conserve the fine structure of cells and tissues you cannot conserve samples in formalin 10% more than 48 hours at 4°C temperature. Diring this period you can embed the samples in paraffin and then conserve them much more (months and even years).  You can also conserve in cryostat parafin embedded slices but the result id worse.when you prepare the samples to staining.

If you have already conserve your liver samples in 10% formalin even at low temperature I am afraid they are already significantly altered either for cryo use or even for paraffin embedding. Sorry. I have had the same misadventure a certain time ago.

I think there is no problem in study your samples only wit H-E stain, no other stain is possible in these cases
