Can anyone recommend fixation techniques for neonatal mouse livers?
We usually fix our adult-derived organ sections (about 0,5-1cm in length and 3-4mm in thickness) in 4% PFA for 48 hours at RT, wash them in dH2O and subsequently transfer them for max. 4 days into 70% EtOH (if our processing facility is booked-out and not immediately avilable).
I´m starting to work with pups at different developmental stages (P2, P8, P14, P30) and a bit apprehensive because the tissues are a lot smaller and different in consistency as compared to adult organs.
If anyone has experience with this or may recommend anything, I would be very gratefuly!

Dear Bree Barand,
It is no problem at all if you keep the specimen in formaline (no negative impact on the histologic pattern) rather than to let them in alcoholic solution. This will make them harder during sectioning. You have to adjust the time for further processing after fixation.
