I want to buy a new laptop to analysis NGS data without server. But I don't know about hardware requirement for NGS analysis. is it possible to analysis these kind of data on a laptop?
Of course the best solution is to use server for NGS data analyses. However it is still achiveable if you really have to use laptop. Still it depends on many factors. What kind of NGS analyses you are going to perform and what software you are going to use? Transcriptome data is, in general, computationally less demanding than genome data. Also performing de novo assembly could be hard task for this kind of hardware. You will need to provide as much RAM as you can (I think 64 GB is max for laptop nowadays) and high-end processor. SSD drive will also speed up your laptop. Aditionally for some analyses you may also make use of CUDA cores if you have some extra funds for graphic card.
As Kamil suggested , analysing NGS data on laptop is not easy and hugely depend on the type of the data. If you are thinking to handle human genome or going through assembly process , you may find laptop really unsuitable for data analysis. However, if you have a small genome/ transcriptome , laptop with high RAM capacity could work. Focus on the Cores of the machine and RAM. Linux OS is high;y recommended not Windows.
