As part of a research i am conducting i plan to analyze how different carbon sources in the growth media of L. reuteri effect the properties of the Supernatant derived from anaerobic growth. My original plan was to grow the bacteria in minimal media supplied with 2.5% glucose, and change the carbon source to different solubles fibers mimicking a high fiber diet. Unfortunately I have not been able to grow L. reuteri in the minimal media I found in the literature, although it has grown very impressively in anaerobic conditions in RPMI 1640 (+ Glutamine) which is the growth medium i am using for mammalian cells. The problem is RPMI has 2% of glucose, and EBSS and HBSS (which I also use for mammalian cells) have 1% glucose. Does anyone have any suggestions on a media that Lactobacilli grow anaerobically uninhibited in which I can control the carbon source?
