After PhD., most people are interested in academic jobs instead of industry jobs. However, we cannot directly compare both in terms of salary and other incentives. You will obviously get high salary in industry, but you are stuck inside those cubicles with monotonous work and you are likely to lack intellectual freedom. On the other hand, you will not get high salary in academics. Even there is a difference in salary between different disciplines.
If you are a fresh PhD. holder, what kind of job you will prefer considering different aspects, i.e. salary and other incentives besides, mental satisfaction. Suggestions from others who are already doing jobs and have experience.

In my opinion, this primarily depend on the field of the research. Not every researcher is hired by industries. A researcher of a field with ample scope in industrial sector will prefer industrial career.
Secondly, it is personal aptitude. One having teaching aptitude would not prefer to go to the industrial sector.
After PhD a researcher must try for public sector or industry if he has high research interest and want to enjoy a handsome salary, in govt organization salary is very very less and life is monotonous and constrained from various angles - instead of research - management and other duties consumes much time, also foreign avenues are competetively lesser
For enjoying a handsome salary after PhD it is advisable to a researcher to try for public sector. Foreign avenues in Government sector is comparatively less. But jobs at Professor level provides social status and helps in improving the quality of education if the person is PhD holder.
There are other option after doing a PhD not only academia vs. industry. It really depends on personal skills that you develop during a PhD and your easier experience.
