For experiments dealing with bacterial cultures or cell line, people usually grow a strain of bacteria or cell from one culture stock. If I grow a bacteria in 3 containers (eg, flasks) from the same stock in one experiment, do those containers of bacterial cultures represent 3 biological replicates or just one replicate? On the other hand, if I grow the same bacteria in 2 different experiments, each has 3 containers of cultures, how many biological replicates do I have, two or six? One problem is sometimes big variations found among experiments. For example, I can't control the final growth of cultures at the endpoint. How do I deal with the variations among different experiments?
