Would you please tell me if there is any free software to model the particles aggregation and flow? I mean spherical or cylindrical particles flow in a channel or fracture and deposit or aggregate when they meet the obstacle and see how the shape of aggregation is.
I mean the Fig 1 of the attached paper
Are COMSOL or ANSYS FLUENT 14.5 capable to simulate this?

ANsys may help you by its particle cloud tracking or stochastic or random walk.
Depends to your work and goal.
And you may see break and connecting Via population balance methods.
It seems it would be a helpful software for you.
I think ANSYS Fluent can be your weapon of choice in this case, when talking about commercial software. On the other hand for open source options, I suggest openFoam, which is widely used in industry and academia and has capabilities of handling multiphase flow.

I haven't used it personally, but you might look at ESys, it's open source. EDEM is another, it is not free however.. Good Luck!

You can use MFIX code, there is implemented EE and DEM model. I new version also MP-PIC.

OpenFOAM is a very capable one for your application. You may find different solvers to start with. I am not sure that you can find the windows version though.

In my PC with Windows I have first installed a virtual machine with Ubuntu and then installed OpenFOAM, this is how they recommend to do it for Windows users in OpenFOAM's site.

Ansys FLUENT will help you to do it. You can easily track the particle by using ANSYS FLUENT. At first you have to decide what is your ultimate target. You can track the particle by using particle ID or you can show the trapped particle. ANSYS FLUENT can't show the trapped particle and for this you have to use UDF. Fluent manual may help you to do this.
You can also do it by using OpenFOAM.
But my understanding is, in Windows, ANSYS FLUENT is better than OpenFoam.
