sir actually i have to do surgery of temporomandibular joints of rats.. and i have to give post operative antibiotics to them.. i just read about oxytetracycline ln long acting preparation.. i hope it is good enough
I think you can use oxytetracycline long acting injection. However, you should decrease the quantity for rats. Please see the following:
OXIPRA® 20 L.A.
Long acting oxytetracycline,
in injectable solution
COMPOSITION:
PER ML:
Oxytetracycline (hydrochloride) 200 mg.
INDICATIONS:
Poultry: Pasteurellosis, CRD and infectious coryza.
Swine: Pasteurellosis, diarrhoea, MMA syndrome and haemorrhagic septicaemia.
Sheep and Goats: Chlamydiosis, pasteurellosis and diarrhoea.
Cattle: Pneumoenteritis, mastitis and metritis.
ADMINISTRATION ROUTE:
Intramuscular.
In poultry, by subcutaneous route, into the mid back region of the neck.
DOSAGE:
Poultry: 0.25 ml/kg b.w., in a single dose.
Swine, Sheep and Goats: 5 to 10 ml/adult animal; and 1 to 5 ml/young animal.
Cattle: 30 to 40 ml/adult animal; and 10 to 15 ml/calf.
Generally, administer 1 ml/10 kg b.w. Normally, one application is sufficient. However, if recommended by the veterinary surgeon, a second administration can be given 48 to 72 hours later.
According to Gabrisch & Zwart you can use Doxirobe gel with doxycycline or Septopal Minikette with gentamycin locally during operation. In my practice I use only quinolone.
