I want to use 1 MCP for extension of storage life of pear. However this chemical is not avialable in india. Is there there some toxicity issue with using 1-MCP on fruits ?

Abstract
Storage experiment was conducted in Al-Moussawi dates plant situated at Abu-Al-Khaseb District , Basrah Governorate to study the effect of some pre and post harvest natural control treatments in improving the qualitative characteristics and storage ability of date palm fruits Phoenix dactylifera L.cv. Bream at rutab stage .Fruits that treated with chitosan at the concentrations of (0, 1.2) % were harvested in the early morning and carried to Al-Moussawi dates plant .Then every one of the three parts divided into five groups, the first was treated with ultraviolet light (UV) at the concentration of 1KGY for periods of (0, 5, 10) minutes ,while the second were treated with (1-MCP) at the concentration of ( 0,0.5,1) ppm for 24 hour at 0 ºc . The third was treated with ozone (O3) at the concentration of 5 ppm for the periods of (0, 0.5, 1) hour ,while the fourth group were soaked in chitosan at the concentrations of ( 0,1,2) % , the fifth were without treatment . Fruits were packed in plastic bags and storage bags at -10± 2 ° C for six months. Results showed that the percentage of total and reducing sugars increased with the increment of storage periods and the percentages of total decay , total and reducing sugars decreased in Bream fruits sprayed with 2% chitosan in the orchard and the lowest percentage of decay was in fruits treated with 5 ppm ozone (O3) for one hour for both seasons. Results showed that the interaction among spraying of chitosan in the orchard , storage treatments and storge periods was significant in it's effect on decay percentage and loss in weight of fruits, during which the treatment with 2% chitosan in the orchard control treatment gave the highest percentage of decay percentage and loss in weight of fruits at the end of storage periods for both seasons
Depends on the pear variety--In my experience even low dosages to pears will sometimes never let them finish the ripening process. Caution is in order.
