I have Whitehead's SOCPROG, but without MATLAB, only works in MS-DOS, I'm looking for any programm that have an easy interface, like IBM's SPSS. I'm working with captivity chimpanzees, and I need to analyse the evolution in their social networks.
Hi, in Whitehead's (2008) book "Analyzing Animal Societies" he lists several programs in a table in one of the chapters, and in the appendix. You can check that out to see if anything suits you. However, I have also tried out the compiled version of SocProg, and it operates from a fairly user-friendly click-button interface. Although the outputs are displayed in an MS-DOS window, there are options to export or copy the results into text files that can be easily imported to MS Excel and used with other programs. Hope this helps!
Raul, you can try UCINET (https://sites.google.com/site/ucinetsoftware/home) free for a while and then decide if you want to purchase it. As a student is not very expensive and is definetely a professional tool concerning network analyses. There is also free software for current focus on exponential random graphs based mathematical models, look for SIENA in the left corner ofTom Snijders Homepage (http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/~snijders/). Good luck...
I think UCINET is a good choice, it is very simple and can do a lot of different analysis. You can use it for free for three months in a computer. Gephi is also a free program, but i think it is good at drawing the network, not analysis.
