I need to study some morphological changes occuring in chondrocytes .If I set up a micromass culture of BMSCs and allow them to differentiate, it is difficult to transfect them and to notice any gross morphological changes. Thus I need a differentiated chondrogenic cell line which has a good transfection efficiency.
Try PSCs derived chondrocytes (Nature Biotechnology April AM et al, 2015/16).
Or you can isolate chondrocytes from cartilage (say from cattle cartilage if human not available or rat or mouse cartilage). Human chondrocytes are available from Cell Application, INC, they are not cell lines, I believe.
ATDC5 cell line could be an option to use. These cells provide one good model for studying chondrogenesis.
Ankita Jena : As Muruganandan Shanmugam mentioned, ATDC5 cells are a well-established in vitro model for chondrogenesis and endochondral ossification. In addition, you may consider the C20A4 cell line--which is another widely used model for studying chondrogenesis and cartilage biology. Another option is to isolate chondrocytes directly from cartilage yourself. However, since these primary cells have been documented to lose their phenotype, you will likely need to develop a cell line (immortalized) to retain your desired chondrogenic phenotype.

I have also read about the use of ATDC5 cell line. In our lab we use micromass culture in order to differentiate mouse BMSCs in chondrogenic media. The reason why I am not able to use this system is because I need to study cell shape changes and achieving that in a micromass is difficult. The transfection efficiency of BMSCs is very low as well. Thus i wanted to know if this is a differentiated cell line and if it can undergo chondrogenesis in monolayer culture.
