I am trying to figure out how to acquire images of x-ray film and western blots (using ECL) using the Carestream Image Station 4000mm with TWAIN and I can't find a manual or guideline anywhere online. The instructions that came with the machine only goes into how to analyze the image but doesn't explain anything about image acquisition. If anyone could direct me some valuable sources of information or explain the basics of what settings I need to acquire images for x-ray film and western blots that would be most helpful. Thank you!

Anyway, my understanding is that TWAIN is an API (application programming interface) that standardizes programmatic access to TWAIN-enabled image acquisition devices (cameras, scanners, and such). The Carestream machine should have been shipped with a CD containing software to be installed in order to expose its TWAIN 'interface' to TWAIN-enabled programs (such as e.g. Photoshop).

The way I understand it, TWAIN is an API to standardize programmatic access to image-capturing devices. So, you install software that comes with your camera/scanner/whatever, and this enables TWAIN-compatible software (i.e. Photoshop) to directly acquire images from the device.
In other words, the Carestream system must have come with a CD or somesuch to install software that will expose its "TWAIN interface". Once installed, you acquire images from the device using a TWAIN-enabled image editor (the details vary according to the specific editor being used).
