My thesis is primarily quantitative in nature. I would be using pre-validated scales for measuring my variableness. I would like to add a qualitative component to it. My query is if there is a clear approach for drawing interview questions from the items mentioned in the scale?
I recommend following up on a scale with an open-end question asking what kinds of thing the respondents were thinking about when they answered that set of questions.
In mixed methods terms, this could help with sequential explanatory approach (QUAN --> qual) for your analyses.

Your rationale behind conducting a qualitative study would be a better guide to formulating interview questions. Additionally, you could try to map the aspects not captured in the existing validated scales' dimensions fully. Also, there could be certain characteristics pertinent to your population per see, in that case, you may wish to capture these aspects in your interview questionnaire.
Given your research goals, why would you like to add a qualitative part to the survey?
