I am currently investigating the 'graffscape' (linguistic landscape of graffiti) in the washrooms in a public university. I am interested in the language and mode choices. Additionally, I want to interview the students (graffitists) to know their motivations for the language and mode choice. How do I get actual graffitists to interview? Or can I interview any student?
This is a really complex issue, as you will have to guarantee confidentiality at all costs, and even the anonymity of the participants. In fact, producing graffiti in toilets to convey a message (in terms of both content and form) is essentially done anonymously.
Perhaps a message on the valves, explaining your research, would help to reach your audience: with a QR-code and a proposal to meet the student by Teams without a camera would help to get respondents.
I am clearly not an expert in this field but from a social and community life point of view, I find your research question really interesting. If you could also relate your results to theories about street graffiti in general, that would be a great discussion.
