I'm starting my journey into the world of aging and senescence and I wanted to know if there is a term for immunological clearance of senescent cells? I've seen efferocytosis used for cell debris and apoptotic cells and am wondering if that term also applies to senescent cells, if there is a different term, or if it is more common to say senescent cell clearance. Any advisement is appreciated!
The senescent cell disposal process can involve efferocytosis / phagocytosis as well as autophagy (and lord knows what else). That's why people just sau "clearance", unless they're examining one if the mechanisms in detail.
