The approach appears to be promising. However, only controlled studies according to International statements may authorize its use and diffusion in the clinical practice.

I wish I had seen this good question when it was first posted. Anyhow, I have just seen it. Yes there is a possibilty to develop a "Thermoset-Natural Gum Cartilage" implant. Generally speaking, the human body rejects specific materials & many  elastomers &  plastics "thermosetting or thermoplastics" are accepted by the body. There are numerous examples of valves, lenses, artificial joints...etc. which were included in or added to our body internally & externally with no close or far negative effect. In fact, research is progressing towards the manufacture of "artificial heart" made from elastomeric polyurethane. 

Due to excellent biocompatibility and mechanical properties, various different applications has been attempted in the field of orthopedic surgery, engaged for long time in research on the clinical applications of  an artificial cartilage, and having performed many basic experiments on the mechanical properties and developed orthopedic implants using many applications of artificial articular cartilage, vertebral disc and artificial meniscus etc. have been developed.

It is an evolutionary design of materials into human implants avoiding metal. Thermosets are highly crosslinked molecular chain polymer structure with resileince to withstand high load, stress and temperature than other alternatives.
