I wonder, is there a possibility of a true diabetic to escape the glucose challenge test (OGTT)?

I have encountered a patient with very atypical forms of presentations. He has a history of being diagnosed with diabetes mellitus more than 10 years ago with his initial Fasting Blood Glucose level reported to had been 12.8Mmol/L. Ever since he managed to "control it?" using dietary therapy alone and his blood glucose values never went above 6Mmol/L.

The patient believes to had been cured diabetes mellitus following ingestion of tabs glibenclamide 5mg od for the 1st 2 weeks of his treatment back then in 1999. He is now simply on dietary therapy and the kicker comes from the fact that the same patient when presented to my clinic, I decided to perform a glucose challenge test (OGTT) on the patient and there was no overt hyperglycaemia even after 100 g of glucose load.
