Let me answer this question from the point of view of a developing country. In India, I have seen that getting access to a journal is a very big ask for an author. The author feels happy when she/ he has managed to get it published. Not too many authors genuinely worry about the quality of the journal. Actually, that happened to me also. When I first saw my name in printed alphabets, I was so excited that the matters relating to the quality of the journal never came to my mind. So quality is not an issue at all in such developing nations. Therefore, if you ask this question in the context of a developing nation, many a times you will see that the quality of the renowned journals and the open access journals are the same. This is because, here accessibility to journals is the key deciding factor.

I think that the quality of the article dependent on the content and the new contribution of results. In this regard, more publications in Renowned Journal (Elsevier, Wiley etc.) and open access renowned journals (MDPI,Frontiers etc.) will be only dust compared with revolutionary results published in preprints, conference papers, and other not branded journals. Renowned Journal (Elsevier, Wiley etc.) and open access renowned journals (MDPI,Frontiers etc.) are only commerce projects and marketing brands.

Selecting a particular journal depends on the field of study, the impact of the journal, quality of review and quality of print. I must also acknowledge that a journal with good reputation normal attracts good papers.

From the above answer made by the valued RG members, it appears that there is a controversial thing that the quality of the article published in renowned journals like Elsevier, Wiley, Springer, Tailor& Francis etc. and the quality of several renowned open access journals like MDPI, Frontiers, PLOS, Hindawai are similar or not. Some of the researchers mentioned that if the quality is similar, so, why we will pay for the publications. On the other hand, some researchers said that the open access journals mentioned above are published quickly, that is why, the researchers are go there. However, we have seen that the journals under Elsevier, Wiley, Springer, Tailor& Francis etc.are not taken more time normally. Therefore, I think that it would be better, if we are able to publish with Elsevier, Wiley, Springer, Tailor& Francis etc.

I think if we talk about equality, it is related to the paper and not the journal or the publishers. Therefore, you can publish quality paper in any journal, be it an open access or not.

However, I think that it is surely related to the journal and also the publisher as the quality journal and the quality publisher undoubtedly published the quality paper. The poor quality paper will not be accepted by the good quality journals.

I think they all are not the same. different categories of researchers have different choices and many researchers like open access journals to make their works having larger visibility. And quality also may vary.

It is absolutely true that different researchers have different views and ideas. Therefore, any researchers have the right to share his own views. The quality of the article published in Renowned Journal (Elsevier, Wiley, Springer, Tailor @ Francis etc.) and open access renowned journals (MDPI, Frontiers, PLOS, Hindawai, etc.) are not the same, I think. I read the article from different journals and I have also experiences to publish the article in the journals mentioned above. I found that the quality is not similar among them, and it is comparatively very easy to publish the open access journals. It is my personal opinion, I invite you also to share your own experiences.

Almost now every database has some open access journals. But all journals that belong to MDPI have open access with having high publication fees.
