In some texts I have read that the Polymorphic Information Content of a molecular marker is an analogous measure of the Observed Heterozygosity. What is the best way to estimate the informative value of a specific marker?
PIC is the best measure to calculate the efficiency of a marker which in turn depends on observed heterozygosity. Additional parameters can be calculated such as Probability of Identity, Resolving Power etc can also be considered for determining the discriminating efficiency of a primer along with PIC.
