Is that right methodology that recording EEG and ECG in anesthetized rat? which is the best anesthetic agent to use for electrophysiological recording in rat?
It all depends on what you are wanting to record. If you can do it in awake animals that is surely best, but if you are wanting to look at evoked response potentials, or even EEG anaesthetic choice will make a big difference. Have a look at the attached publication for a reasonable idea.
For ECG you would obviously want to avoid noradrenergic and cholinergic drugs to prevent changing autonomic functions.
I chose pentobarbital for a recent study, as ketamine as a NMDA antagonist could interfere in circuitry involved in some ERPs.
Thank you so much for your suggestions. recently it has been proved and using ketamine as antidepressant agent and it will also interfere with theta wave.. if you record in the awake rat the visual stimuli will cause difference in brain wave know.. i am in big confusion..
Unfortunately any anaesthetic is likely to alter cortical synchrony and responsiveness. In a way that's what anaesthetics do, alter cortical activity resulting in unconsciousness...
