Is science important? Just suppose there was an individual who had somehow gained access to scientific knowledge from the remote future. It could only be viewed in the present as too speculative. Perhaps it would even be seen as ignorant, since it would contradict today's accepted science to some extent. What could it do except explain why things are as they are? And if no such person existed, the status quo would be no different - things would still be as they are. The only benefit would be satisfaction of individual curiosity. If we desire a life including a measure of fame or riches, we could spend our life trying to convince others of the validity of our thoughts. But if we desire a life of quietness and privacy, we could decide to never again lift up a pen or never tap on a keyboard and our curiosity would remain completely satisfied within that reclusiveness.
