I am willing to update my knowledge about the authenticity of PLS either in Psychological Methods or in Organizational Research Methods showing that PLS is acceptable/as good as SEM.
As far as i have read from sources it says that for exploratory studies we should use PLS-SEM and for confirmatory studies we should use Full SEM. Also, for a detailed insight i would recommend you to read these articles:
Hi, Fakhar Once I sent my paper to one of the journals, and the paper was rejected due to PLS Technique. This was the journal reply
“I have concerns about your use of PLS for your analysis. While there are certainly defenders of PLS, there are also plenty of critics (e.g., Antonakis et al., 2010; Mikko & Evermann, 2013), and the critics make a very strong case for why we should not use this approach. Indeed, Antonakis et al. (2010) and Mikko and Evermann (2013) make strong cases that PLS is never a preferred method of analysis. I’d note that PLS is rarely used in OB/IO research as a result of this guidance. For future iterations of this manuscript, I encourage you to explore the possibility of more appropriate statistical analyses should you choose to continue to conduct your analysis with an individual-level approach”.
I am attaching these articles so that you can read the critics.
PLS-SEM is now widely applied in many social science disciplines, including
organizational management (Sosik et al., 2009), international management (Richter et al., 2015), human resource management (Ringle et al., 2019), management information systems (Ringle et al., 2012), operations management (Peng and Lai, 2012), marketing management (Hair et al., 2012b), management accounting (Nitzl, 2016), strategic management (Hair et al., 2012a), hospitality
management (Ali et al., 2018b) and supply chain management (Kaufmann and Gaeckler, 2015). Several textbooks (e.g., Garson, 2016; Ramayah et al., 2016), edited volumes (e.g., Avkiran and Ringle, 2018; Ali et al., 2018a), and special issues of scholarly journals (e.g., Rasoolimanesh and Ali, 2018; Shiau et al., 2019) illustrate PLS-SEM or propose methodological extensions.
