My take is that fame and money can be in a trade-off relation. There is an old story of Thales, the first philosopher of ancient Greece, who was famous as one of the seven wise men at that time. His aim was the truth and not money. When he was reproached for being poor, he used his little money and great wisdom to speculate on the coming year’s olive crop and made a fortune, demonstrating that famous people can make money if they want to.

There was a time in history when princes and the military aimed at power, wealth and glory. That aim got transformed into an aim for betterment. This generalizes to the level that every generation wants to leave the world in a better state than they met it. For instance, a better state of civic affairs seem to dominate the urge for money and power. Humans are lauded more for their power to choose between good and bad, and not between money and fame.

It is also interesting the King Midas'mith: the Mida's touch transforms everything in gold. In ancient Greece gold was a symbol for money, when it did not circulate, i.e. when money was used just as a reserve of value. As you should know, Midas had to pray Dionysus in order to loose his power, his fame, but in order to reconquer the possibility to survive as a human being.

You need money for your basic necessities according to a common minimum requirements as bench- marked by you. However, for becoming famous, you need competence and capability, which may not be linked to money always. Hard work, passion and perseverance , high energy with optimism are the attributes which would be necessary to be famous which are non-monetary inputs.

I guess fame and money both are required for human, We need money for not only our basic minimum requirement we also need it for family , crisis , future security etc, specially in todays world , when you have money u can afford health in old age (specially in developing countries) , otherwise its difficult. Fame is subjective , for some celebirties (movie stars , polititians etc) will come under the category of fame , if thats true then Fame and money go equally hand in hand , for some fame is subject to field of your occupation or study (which will include doctors , academicians ,scientists) then fame and money may not have direct relation.Whatever may be the relation , fame is more luck based , but money if u get it or not u need it for your requirement.

I guess that the point is the proper or improper use of money.

Fame comes with many responsibilities that most people do not want to deal with. I'd rather just have the money and do what I need to do with that.
