I wonder if publishing research papers is a good start-up idea to earn more money or is it just a loss making business and I will go bankrupt in the future?
Hello Paul, I think you have missed the bus somewhat,, coming into academics or teaching is not really a paying profession or a get rich deal like investing into NVIDIA Corp or smt else. It actually involves Empathy. Engagement and desire to Enlighten. However having said that , unfortunately there are umpteen cases of misappropriation of research funding for personal gain by teachers, researchers and even institutions. I would like you to think abt it this way. If you really have a useful discovery /application or a devise, the only probable way to earn would be either registering it as a patent or by writing a book. Of course there are colleges that do pay a certain honorarium for quality research (probably into Q1-Q2) while some offer promotions, rank and or modest financial raises. I hope that you consider the profession and your personal ambitions to decide without conflict or chaos your own future (assuming since yr question seems more of a personal one). Cheers
