The following is not my opinion about the question, but I want to share what I recently read in the book "Physics of the Impossible" written by the theoretical physicist Michio Kaku. In this book, he considers about telepathy in the meaning of reading your thoughts and feelings. So, his thought about telepathy can be identified as his thought about reading the 'contents' of one's heart. He classifies telepathy in the category of Class I impossibilities, which he defines as technologies that are impossible today but that do not violate the known laws of physics. His reasoning for this classifying is as follows:

"[…] because the brain is not a computer but a neural network, in which thoughts are spread out throughout the brain, ultimately we hit a stumbling block: the brain itself. So although science will probe deeper and deeper onto the thinking brain, making it possible to decipher some of our thinking processes, it will not be possible to "read your thoughts" with the pinpoint accuracy promised by science fiction. Given this, I would term the ability to read general feelings and thought patterns as a Class I impossibility."

However, "telepathy" has a more important meaning of producing and receiving signals between different persons. Telepathy in this sense, I suppose, should be considered not from technological viewpoint but from the viewpoint of biological phenomenon.

Only if you have a solid background knowledge of the person can you read a person's heart with a high degree of accuracy.

People who are truly in love and know each other perfectly well are capable of reading each other's hearts. Honest relationships based on mutual understanding and love develop a kind of telepathy between the partners which transcends ordinary barriers by penetrating the heart and soul. This usually happens in the lives of the people celebrating their golden wedding anniversaries. These people can read each other's minds easily because they are inherently familiar with the most delicate sensitivities of the other partner.

As Arparna has stated, yes one is capable of reading one own heart - for some of us it is the seat of the Soul or Self. Interestingly, some people who receive a transplant heart, are able to obtain information about their donors through their new hearts. People who are very sensitive seem better able to to this than others. In reports regarding heart transplants, it seems more women are capable to obtaining information about their donors than men. (Joshi, 2011). In my own research regarding training in a heart based method known as Intuitive Meditation, I found that women reported being more sensitive than men - but as my sample size especially regarding males was too small, it is too early to generalise. I also feel that any gender differences can also be overcome through training although the pathway through the heart for obtaining information might be slightly different in males and females..

This sounds very much like the opinion of Freud and the id. The first layers as one starts to approach the heart, are often full of old emotions tied to our history, but when one has learnt how to work constructively with them one starts to connect to the deeper Self which is the source of all knowledge.
