yaaa definitely you can but the important things is to use proper type of column and mobile phase which you used in it. first u go for some literature review then proceed its a right way to do any work.
each type like amino acids, sugars and vitamins needs different methods for preparing the sample which need the analysis using HPLC techniques also you must needd to know the devertization of the sample . If you need to determine the quantitaive determination of speacially types authentic samples must be avaialble you must be have a complete data what do you need first
Hi, you might want to search the Waters website, www.waters.com, for topics such as amino acid analysis or vitamins. We offer a variety of applications work with methods that demonstrate how HPLC (or more recently UPLC) with UV can be used, such as:
Yes there are a lot of methods to detect amino acids, sugars and vitamins on HPLC-PDA. You have to derivatised your samples to make them detectable on PDA.
Amino acid and sugars do not have chromophores group/s, so you can not detect these compounds without pre or post chromatographic derivatization. You can detect vitamins through UV detector. Pl remember one thing for sugar analysis you need amide or amino column for the separation.
1- For amino acids u need to derivative (e.g. with 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene) - UV detector
2- For sugars u need another detector - refractive detector
3- For vitamins - UV detector; lipophile vitamins- in one chromatographic system and hydrophile vitamins- in other chromatographic system (i.e. mobile phase)
1- For amino acids u need to derivative (e.g. with 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene) - UV detector(except Phe)
2- For sugars u need another detector - refractive detector
3- For vitamins - UV detector; lipophile vitamins- in one chromatographic system and hydrophile vitamins- in other chromatographic system (i.e. mobile phase) (vit C is not good with HPLC-UVD)

For the determination of sugars The ELSD detector is the best choice as reflective detector has one big disadvantage that you can use only iso-cratic system. Best choice of column is Hilalic of waters's India.
