I'm using regenerated cellulose dialysis membrane, spectra/por 6, the problem is that in methanol or ethanol the membrane hardens and all my sample leaked through it slowly, I don't know if pores are shrinking or expanding!! It shouldn't harden I guess. Any suggestions?
I did check the pore size, the problem comes only when I'm using methanol, in water there is no leakage. Can you tell why the dialysis bag is hardening in methanol ?
I'm having the same problem but with Chloroform. In fact the Regenerated Cellulose dialysis membrane hardens when it's put in dialysis against Chloroform. Maybe you should try dialyze against water. You put ehtanol or methanol in the dialysis membrane and dialyze angainst water.
I had a similar problem, since my sample disolves in methanol only, later, I found out that dialysis against water is a good way for this situation, it can avoid the harden of dialysis membrane, at the same time, it can do a great job geting rid of small molecules.
