There are different formulas and techniques using which you can find out the sample size for pilot study. However, as the primary purpose of pilot study is to improve the existing study hence you can consider a sample of 10% of the actual sample projected for main study.
The sample for pilot study is primarily to established the fact that your research instrument or instruments is valid and can help you in undertaking the study under review. It's therefore recommended that you take not less that 5% of the sample or population who are probably not parts of your sampled.
