With a work of forty volumes and a tradition of 200 years, Pestalozzi marks the theory and practice of modern pedagogy. This book rescues this charismatic and passionate figure, following the trail of some of his ideas and experiences. It was the first academic work done in Brazil about this author, as a master's thesis at USP. First published in 1997, this edition is from 2006.
More than just a historical review, the author intends to indicate Pestalozzi as a source of inspiration and reflection on fundamental issues of education: What is the human being? What are the priority objectives of an educational practice? What are freedom and autonomy in education? How to introduce Ethics in the formation of the individual? These and other topics are discussed here from the perspective of Pestalozzi, an educator who was able to care for eighty orphaned and traumatized children alone and restore their confidence in life and the will to learn.
