Is it better to submit your work in a journal that charges and quickly publishes your work as compared to a free journal that takes ages to analyze and publish? Whose credibility would you bet your money on if you are a researcher?
Reasons: (1) There is normal peer review process. Reviewers perform the reviews as unpaid service to community. Short cuts means low quality.
(2) there is a large number of “predatory” journals that will publish fast, but even when they promise peer reviews, they are not legitimate. (3) Predarory journals are on the scientific community‘s radar; publishing there will damage your reputation.
Paid journal does not implied low quality of the paper. Many paid journals are indexed in Scopus , ISI and SCI with high impact Factor and rigorous peer reviews. The issue of paid and unpaid Journal lies with the Author. If you wish to make it open access or closed access.
Paid journals that cut corners and promise 30-day turn around time from summission to publication are for sure low quality predatory journals. Other open access journals that do not necessarily promise quick publication are legit.
Fast track publication as dubbed by many predatory journals mean that no rigorous review of the paper is carried out. We must always submit our papers to journals that would heighten their quality via thorough review processes. Also, check whether the journal is catalogued in the predatory journal list. Thus, it would not be prudent to submit our papers to such journals.
However, charging APC or not cannot be used as an indicator of a predatory journal as these charges are mostly used in running most of the journals that provide services such as 3D versions of published papers and so forth.
I would not like to suggest you to choose paid journal, which can threaten your reputation. So many predatory journals exist. We already know that those journal publication cannot be appreciated properly. Several well-paid journals exist by each discipline; however, its peer review also takes a long time (approximately about one year). I think that it would be much better to develop 2-3 papers at the same time and then submit them to different free journals because we cannot predict which paper would be accepted earlier.
@ Nirmala S.V.S.G. Madam my paper is under review since january 2018.. now its alnost one year and there is no reply from journal. Should i withdraw my paper now? This is the reason why i want to publish in open access journal.
It is always better to submit your manuscript in journals from well known publishers such as elsivier, springer, Taylor and Francis, wiley etc. Most of the journals take publication charges only when you opt for open access and have good review speed(30 to 45 days) .These journals have good peer review system. Thus the quality of your work will definitely enhance after review even if your paper is rejected. So opt for a journal from a well known publisher. All the best.
Some journals accept APC (Article processing charge) yet are high reputation journal. Factors to be considered ain't paid or unpaid rather than the following:
1. Reputation: Before submitting your manuscript to any journal, check ISI, SCI, Scopus, etc to know if the journal is indexed in any or all them. Trust the journal's reputation, if the journal is indexed in at least two of them. This also depends on the quality of your manuscript.
2. Timely publication: Big professors usually don't care about this because of several hundred publications already in their credits. However, younger scholars will prefer journal with higher publication frequency. This doesn't necessarily alter the peer-review process and the journal's reputation. Always remember No. 1.
3. Access: I think open access journal are better in terms of attracting more citations. Big professors also do not care about this. Always remember No. 1.
4. Funding: Of course, you need to know how much the APC cost and see if it is within your funding capacity. Don't forget No.1 because of your academic reputation....
If the magazine that receives a substantial amount of money is considered to be one of the world's largest containers (Scopas Klaravit), it is better for the researcher
Depends on situation and time duration. Free SCI journal is must be the first preferences. But if according to our requirement we want to publish within short time, then we can preferred the journals which is publishing within short period of time.
I would suggest avoid publishing with the journals which ask for manuscript handling charges. Even avoid to publish with journals which guarantee to publish your articles quickly without charging anything. Most of these journals are predatory, who have created a mess across the global research community.
