Three most recent publications that relate to IL-6 and Type 2 diabetes are listed below as I am also interested on this subject.
1. Nerve injury induced protein 1(Ninj-1) could contribute to inflammation. Blocking of this factor could decease over-expression of IL-6 genes and it serves as protective effect on endothelial cells in diabetes.(Clin Sci (London), 2017.
2. Strong expression of IL-6 gene was associated with RARRE2 in type 2 diabetes. (Biomed Khim, 2017)
3. IL-6 and TNF are the driving force of lipolysis in individuals with abnormal glucose metabolism, like in Type 2 diabetes (Arch Physol Biochem 2017).
I feel, after reading through those articles, IL-6 is an important cytokines involved in various tissue dysregulation in Type 2 diabetes. I do not feel, however, it is the only cytokine that led to the onset of Type 2 diabetes.

Much more promising than IL-6, is the role of harmine in diabetes, specifically affecting pancreatic islet cell regeneration.
I do not know the compound harmine. A quick check on Wikipedia tells me it could be in thirty different kinds of plants. So, if human has any chance of ingesting harmine, it was likely contaminated as herbs. In some countries those products contain harmine are prohibited from marketing.
I hope someone could teach me how harmine is related to onset of Type 2 diabetes. And, why harmine is more important than the role of IL-6, although I emphasized in the previous mail, there are more than one cytokine that are involved in the dysregulation of tissue function in the patients with Type 2 diabetes..

The question was about the role of IL-6 in T2D. The purpose of the question is not to list the substances that affect pancreas in various ways. From the question it can be assumed that Nandakumar needs clarification of the role of IL-6 in T2D. If you are already mention harmine and comparing it with IL-6, please can you explain the similarities and differences in the effects of harmine and IL-6.

Harmine targets DYRN1A and NFAT in promoting pancreatic beta cell regeneration, thereby insulin production (Nature Medicine 21, 388-388, 2015). DYRN1A and NFAT cause abnormal activation of cytokine genes (eg. EMBO Rep 15(16):686-694, 2014). Type 2 diabetes is insulin dependent, abnormal and/or deficient, while Type 1 diabetes is just insulin deficient.
Zdravkovic is correct. The original question is "if IL-6 good or bad for Type 2 diabetes ?" If we start to toss in subject as if we are discussing the cause of Type 2 diabetes, I am afraid we are losing the focus of discussion.

I would consider high IL-6 in DM bad, as it is a marker of inflammation. No opinion on whether it is a cause, a consequence or an accompanying independent (and undesirable) process of the disease.
