If we look closely at the behavior of cynics we will come to the conclusion that they are essentially frustrated idealists. In other words, the cynic turned his ideals into expectations. Is cynicism the worst form of resistance to change?
Thank you for making this interesting question, I am in somehow agree with dear Prof Vadim Gorshkov, The most extreme forms of cynicism can lead to being frustrated idealists , but nowadays we deal with worse than them!
Cynicism is a unique form of resistance to change. It’s a way of saying, “This will never work so I’m not even going to participate.” People tune out, or surrender, without even a flicker of interest in the possibility of making something happen. Cynicism is a nasty disease in many organizations (and in many households, too). It is contagious - in part because people can make their cynical statements sound wise and experienced, often humorous or sarcastic.

In some schemes of resistance to change it have been identified different kinds of behaviour. There is the Old King, the person who don't want lost power with the new change; Laggards, people who have no confidence in the benefits of change and improvement, and Neo Luddites people who are agaist the change in a fiersly form. I think people who express cynicism can belong to Laggards group. Any way you must expect this kind of behaviours when a change strategy is proposed the fear to new situations is more common between people than we expect. It is a human characteristics that also include people with high level of education can also feel fear in a new situation.
