I have been having serious issues with dead volume in our HPLC system, basicallly because the tubings provided for our FRC-10A system are rather thick. I am considering changing it but it seems to be the "official" one, with a terminal plug adaptor. I am not sure how to change this.
Anyone else here have the same system, so we could exchange experiences with it?
Showing in the picture: the end that goes in the solenoid valve, demonstrating both: i) how internal gauge of tubing is quite thick, being filled with solution (=high dead volume) and ii) the terminal fitting that enables correct instalation. Is this normal in this model? Or was there some supply/instalation mistake?
looks the same with my FRC. I have a dead volume of approx 125 µl??? did you try the bubble test?
Yes... It gives a dead volume of over 560 ul... Can you please also have a look at the internal caliber I show in the link below? It is the one on the left, and it seems awfully much! I wanted to change for somwething like in B.

your suspision was right. the tubing from my detector (UV-VIS) is dramatically thinner (!!!) than yours. A possible answer would be that you have a prearative collection head(!??!) The bad new is, that the replacement of your part (at the side of the valve) by yourself might get difficult (we tried it once with a biorad HPLC and did not succeed). I would contact the "man from Shimadzu".
Many thanks Andreas! This was the confirmation we expected. Problem is, since this is Brazil, the guy who assembled the equipment seems now reluctant to come over, and no-one will try to acknowledge if there is anything wrong. He should be getting here in our lab within an hour... will let you know what he says.
I strongly suspect Shimadzu Brazil has sold a preparative equipment without knowing (or caring) to analytical users, and other buyers will take much longer to find out what is wrong as usually students are in charge of these equpments.

Excellent -- this was exactly the issue. The technician had installed a preparative tubing system by mistake, and took quite a long while to realize this (he is quite young). Now he quickly changed it for another one fit for analytic fractionation. I am still going to measure dead volume, but I am sure it should be fine now, something around 75 ul.

Dear all, I am very happy to see someone using this system working! Please, we try to solve an issue with fraction collection by UV. It´s possible to collect fractions by MS, by time but with UV command it doesn´t work at all. Since "application specialist" for Czech Republic is arrogant definitely non-expert, could you give me an advise? Thanks a lot for any suggestion (or contact to real expert)
